UPDATE – Nov 16, 2011 – Allie Loftis has been found and is safe. Thanks to everyone.
This blog post is something of a Public Service Announcement. The daughter of an old colleague of mine has been missing for the past week. Please, if you know people in NY, please help by spreading the word. The more eyes on the street, the more people who see this flyer, the more likely Allie will be found.
Allie’s parents have started a Facebook page.
And here is her page on the website of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Missing: 13-year-old runaway in NYC (missing since Friday, Nov. 4)
(Note: Please read this ENTIRE email as it contains important information and one BIG caveat re: use of the attached flyer.)
We need the help of everyone living in NYC, who has friends or colleagues in NYC, or who has a social network that includes people in NYC. And we need it urgently and right now.
Our 13-year-old daughter ran away from our home in Wayland, MA on Friday, November 4, and we need to expand the network of people trying to help us find her. We are working with the police department and already have searched all of the places we think she is likely to have gone. We now urgently need your help – and the help of anyone you can think of who can extend the effort – so we can canvas a larger area. As you can understand, time is of the essence, so please take a few moments to join this critical search now and bring as many others into the search with you as you can.
Our local police created the attached missing person flyer for Allie. It provides a very good description of her and several photos. BEFORE YOU USE OR DISTRIBUTE THE FLYER, THOUGH, PLEASE CAREFULLY FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS:
DO NOT POST IT IN PUBLICLY VIEWABLE LOCATIONS, such as bulletin board in a store or a store window. If she sees the poster in a neighborhood she frequents, she will move on. We are working on many avenues to try to make her comfortable enough to surface so we can get her home. We do not want to do anything that causes her to go further underground.
ASK STORE MANAGERS TO SHARE THE FLYER WITH THEIR EMPLOYEES, BUT TO KEEP IT BEHIND THE COUNTER
The store managers we have reached out to have been incredibly helpful in their willingness to help us keep an eye out for Allie. If you share the poster with store managers, please be sure they know that she was last seen in a black down jacket walking with a crutch. If she is no longer using, she likely will be walking with a limp. Please don’t worry about duplicating someone else efforts by talking to the same store manager someone else has contacted. In our experience, the more people hear about this search, the more vigilant they are in helping us look for our daughter.
SHARE THE FLYER WITH EMPLOYERS IN NYC FIRMS
Ask HR managers or business owners/managers to share the poster with their employees so they can keep an eye out for this little girl. Ask them to spread the word to other people they know in NYC and their firms, and to bring copies of it to stores they frequent [BEING CAREFUL TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS LISTED ABOVE ABOUT NOT POSTING IT IN A PUBLICLY VIEWABLE LOCATION]

The more people who are keeping an eye out for Allie, the faster we can gather effective leads to bring her safely home.
